Confirmation Bias and the brain

What we accept as a belief creates what is called 'confirmation bias' in our system. An opinion that is based on nothing more than the uninformed talk from others, can actually change our brain so that it begins to sort for confirming information, almost immediately.

It can be based on research and science, and substantiated opinions, or it can be stuff we gleened from chatrooms, the hairdressers or the casual flip through a magazine. Really? Yes.We are incredibly easy to influence, especially if it is charged with an emotion-especially fear.

Case in point, the emails that circulate endlessly. They are forwarded endlessly! No, microsoft is NOT giving out money if you forward the email. Neither is Nestle's, Hershey's, or any other company. Nope. Not IBM. Doesn't matter if it said "this came from my lawyer, my accountant, my best friend, my brother that is a specialist". Check it out yourself. Go to www.truthorfiction.com or www.snopes.com and check yourself. But no. It's easier to pass it on 'in case' it's true. Why are we so reluctant to do our own questioning?

I'm in the hairdressers. One woman says she has earthquake emergency kits in all cars with first aid stuff, power bars and bottles of water. Someone else inhales sharply and says "Oh no! Not bottles of water. Those will give you breast cancer! Didn't you hear?!" The whole salon comes to a silent stop. No breathing. Some agree, yes, they heard it. This is a thought meme. Whether or not it is true, it has now been introduced, much like a virus would if she had had a cold and sneezed! Each person's brain has grasped the emotional charge, and even if they think "oh come on-if there is an emergency and that is your only water, you'll drink it"...the unspoken thought was "even if it could give you breast cancer."

It's out there now, hanging in the room. Some had not heard that, some had. Those that had, confirmed it was true to those that had not heard it. It is now circulating in all their little hippocampi, getting potentiated around and around. Hardwiring into them.

Confirmation bias is now active. Their brain is going to start filtering FOR information that will confirm this and it will automatically filter OUT anything that does not.

See, we try to confirm, not disconfirm. We do it automatically. Consciously, as well as subconsciously. Peter Wason coined the term 'confirmation bias' and interestingly enough we use a different part of our brain when do it. When people around you hold a belief, you form a belief based on their belief, and your brain starts to accept confirming data, not disconfirming data. Automatically.

Haven't you heard people say the old 'three times' bit? They heard it three times, so it means it's real. You know where that superstition...er...tradition came from? The old testament. Testimony is only accepted as true if it has been witnessed three times. Once is not enough. Twice is not enough. Three times.

So, you hear about the water bottles at the hairdressers. You don't really think it's true. You overhear two women in the grocery store, coincidentally, while you are in line the next day saying the same thing. You must have missed the study and make a note to look it up. Then a few days later someone sees you with a plastic water bottle while you are out and says "don't leave that in your car. You heard about the new study right?" That's it! You might pish posh it, but the very next time you go to take a drink from the water bottle in your car...you hestitate.

It's not true, right? I mean, come on. It hasn't even been hot lately. How long does it have to be in the car? Maybe it doesn't mean anything? But you know, it isn't worth taking a chance is it? You don't drink the water. You throw it away in fact. I mean, it's not so hard to get a glass bottle for the car is it?

That hesitation means that you have formed a new health belief that is based on fear marketing, whether or not it is true, and that fast, you got walked into it. Each time you go to take a drink from a plastic bottle your brain says "danger". Do you think you are potentiating an attractor field? You could be. Is it helpful?

Here's the TRUTH girls and boys:
eated Bottles of Water Are Dangerous and Caused Sheryl Crow's Cancer-Fiction!

According to www.truthorfiction.com

Summary of the eRumor:
There are a several versions of this eRumor.

The first to appear on the Internet was a message that says a Dr. Edward Fujimoto from the Castle Hospital (no location mentioned) appeared on television and said plastic containers should not be used for heating foods in a microwave oven. He said this is especially true if the foods contain fat. The message claims that the combination of fats and plastics will release dioxins into the food and into the cells of the body with a risk of cancer. The doctor recommended using glass, Corning Ware, or ceramic containers instead in order to avoid the dioxin. Prepared foods such as TV dinners should be taken out of plastic containers before heating.

The second version tells the story of a seventh-grade student who decided to do some experiments with microwave radiation on food wrapped in plastic. She is said to have enlisted the help of the National Center for "Toxicological" Research in Arkansas. The student allegedly found that not only are there carcinogens migrating from the plastic into food during microwaving, but other substances as well.

This eRumor also lists an article about Dr. Edward Fujimoto saying that he appeared on a TV station in Huntsville, Alabama.

Another version claims all this was in newsletters from Johns Hopkins University and Walter Reed Army Medical center.

Yet another version says that singer Sheryl Crow, who is suffering from breast cancer, got her cancer from drinking from plastic water bottles left in the sun and that got too hot and, as a result, were contaminated with dioxins.

The Truth:
TruthOrFiction.com has not been able to find any research that supports the fear that food can become contaminated with dioxins either from plastic wrap or plastic in microwave ovens.

Now folks, if heating in a microwave won't release those dangerous dioxins, then will getting warm in the car do it???

I got caught up the official one that said this though:

Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins University- Fiction!

Summary of the eRumor:
A lengthy email about cancer and nutrition said to have been published by the famous Johns Hopkins University

The Truth:
The suggestions in the email do not appear to have come from any reputable medical source and Johns Hopkins University says it did not come from them.

In a published statement, the university said, "Johns Hopkins did not publish the email, entitled "Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins," nor do we endorse its contents. For more information about cancer, please read the information on our web site or visit the National Cancer Institute's web site at www.cancer.gov.

You know why this one got me? My husband was IN the hospital at the time, and every bit of his food was microwaved on plastic sealed containers and plates. I was vulnerable to immediately accepting this as TRUTH!

Now a year later, I can delete this from my internal files as not true, if I can. But it is a persistent one. I have even passed it on with the best of intentions, just like that woman in the hair salon. By the way-that hair salon water bottle story-truth. I was there. I heard it and watched it go around the room like lightning folks!

Vibrational Medicine

"If physicians understood that emotional and spiritual blockages were indirectly responsible for organ dysfunction in the body, there would be more attention directed to dealing with a patient's psychotherapeutic needs and not just with the pharmaceutical and surgical aspects of a patient's care." pg 393 Vibrational Medicine/Richard Gerber

If you haven't picked this book up, I'd suggest it. He correlates so many of the energy healing techniques we are familiar with, as well as many others, and each time I pick it up I learn something new.

pg 201
"Electrographic scans of the body demonstrate that acupuncture points GLOW BRIGHTLY when their associated meridian is out of balance, thus allowing an alternative method of disease detection. Stimulation of acupuncture points produces changes in the nervous system because the meridians indirectly influence nerve pathways in the body. Such acupuncture-associated nerve changes are probably mediated by energy field fluctuations in the vicinity of the nerves and the glial cells which surround them."

Energy Kinesiology and Brain Integration directly works with and on these acupuncture points and meridians in a non-intrusive way using a tei-shin push stimulator and never needles.

The Science of Fear (marketing)

I feel so validated, vindicated and authenticated right now. I've been saying FOR YEARS, 15 to be precise, that we are being marketed IN to bad health, fear and fat, among other things, and to pay attention.

I've just read "The Science of Fear" by Daniel Gardner.

He sites some interesting medical statistics, which confirm what we've talked about in classes. "Many of the disease awareness campaigns are underwritten by the marketing departments of the big drug companies-not the organizations that are interested in public health. They also hire marketing departments that are expert at 'condition branding' whose skills include 'fostering the creation' of new medical disorders and dysfunctions."

Along those same lines, for instance, they shift the line between healthy and diseased, both in our mind's perception, and in the medical practice itself.

"Steven Wolosin and Lisa Schwartz, doctors and researchers at the Dartmouth Medical School, were among the first to analyze this process. In 1999 they published a paper examining proposals by various professional associations to change the thresholds for diagnosis of high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and obesity. In every case, the new thresholds made it easier for people to be qualified as having these conditions. They then calculated that if all the new standards were put in place, 87.5 million otherwise healthy Americans would suddenly be deemed to have at least one chronic condition-and 3/4 of all Americans would be considered 'diseased'." Instantly. It's called spinning the numbers, but this isn't about getting us to buy a brand of tissue, this is about our health state, which is in our mind.

"Erectile dysfunction, female sexual dysfunction, hair loss, osteoporosis, restless leg syndrome, shyness, are just a few of the conditions whose seriousness and prevalence have been systematically inflated by drug companies seeking bigger markets." How many of us have seen these ads? All of us. Every channel. And every one has a pill that you need to take. Let's ad depression, anxiety, and sleeplessness to the list as well. Arthritis is getting up there, and cholesterol. And then there are the ads for the early warnings like flu shots, mammograms, and vaccines for cervical cancer.

1. The critical first step in getting people to ask their doctors for a pill or test - language. He calls it 'medicalizing' a problem, and that's why we have so many medical ads in women's magazines next to the recipes now.

2. People will be more likely to conclude they have a problem if it is common, so they push statistics at us, but the statistics are often unsubstantiated or from reports that the medical community doesn't take seriously. They also quote from the center of the pack where the marketing dollar is, rather than from the truth. Case in point-breast cancer. I'll write more on that tomorrow.

3. And now you have pharmaceuticals treating risk factors and the risk factor becomes a disease itself which inflats the numbers because anyone taking the med is now considered a 'patient'.

This is selling sickness, and it's extremely dangerous because it bypasses our thinking mind and hits us in our emotional center-all good advertising does. It sells. And the bottom line of disease...is money.

Make a Difference to One

As the old man walked down the beach at dawn, he noticed a young man ahead of him picking up starfish and flinging them into the sea. Finally catching up with the youth, he asked him why he was doing this. The answer was that the stranded starfish would die if left until the morning sun.

“But the beach goes on for miles and there are millions of starfish,” countered the other. “How can your effort make any difference?” The young man looked at the starfish in his hand and then threw it to safety in the waves.

“It makes a difference to that one,” he said.

Woman and the Red Dragon

Woman and the Red Dragon from Edgar Cayce

This is a short snip of an interpretation from John's prophecies.
7 angels, 7 trumpets
a pregnant woman being chased by a red dragon with 7 gold crowns, the beast of rebellion.

The pregnant woman represents our application of spiritual principles.

Interesting.
The challenge of living our spiritual truth as we are pursued.
Anyone feeling pursued?

Wings of an Eagle-to fly to sanctuary

The dragon is the accuser and it pours out floods of water from it's mouth-the flood of emotions that come with a flood of hormones?

Emotions and Structure

Emotions come and go like the waves, unless we assign meaning to them. If we hold them, and grow them or dam them up, the energy builds.

Emotion doesn't have shape and form. But if we give those emotions form, by taking the feelings and defining them then we have created a structure, and that structure is called 'belief'.

"I believe the world is unsafe" is the belief that comes from the emotion of fear, and the feeling in the body of that emotional tension and stress.

It's a bit like taking symptoms and calling them a particular disease. We name it and now it has a force, a structure, a reality.

Like taking a negative energy field, and then imagining a face and naming it and suddenly we have a demon. It's more real? Or is it still the same energy? Is the energy still the feeling? Is the feeling an emotion? And is the emotion inside us? Is that what started it? Was that the energetic attractor?

Playing with concepts. and forms. But in the Biblical text, we 'name' things to make them real. When 'God' named things, he made them come alive.

Maybe we should be careful what we name? Hmmm? What if we leave it in the undefined realm?

Trauma Resolution

We've created quite an interesting mix in this country:

The people that have trained in trauma...what it is, how to help someone, how to talk it, how to guide them, are legally bound NOT to touch. Ah ah ah. Talk, don't touch. It violates their licensing to touch someone. I'm talking about Psychologists, Psychotherapists, Social Workers. Talk don't touch.

Then we have people licensed to touch. Ah! But they aren't allowed to talk. No 'talk therapy'. So emotional issues come up and LEGALLY they aren't allowed to deal with it or help their client. Massage therapists. Touch-don't talk.

When did we get so muddled? When did we divide the body from the mind? Legally? Licensing the separation? I've often said we've been villifying touch. We've literally outlawed it

and yet, we know that touch heals.
We know that touch calms.
We know that we crave touch, that cell talks to cell and that alone will shift people if they are ready.

So why have we come to this split and what will it take to reconcile it? Maybe kinesiology!

International Trauma Conference in Boston

Having spent a week out East with top experts in the 'traumonology" field, oh yes there is one, I came away with many feelings, which in turn are really new beliefs!

First and most important for no one but me...
1. I DO know what I am doing!
and then...
2. The so called experts don't have a clue, and that degree they have...hmmmm is nice but doesn't say a whole lot about getting to the real answers.

Maybe I'm being harsh. Oh ok, I am. I know it. I'm being judgmental and opinionated and narrow. AND it's because these experts with the funding and the degrees and the research don't have any answers about actually relieving trauma. They are studying it, revealing it, and so are validating it. But relieving it? Take a pill.

Maybe it's because they haven't experienced trauma themselves?

They have theories. They then present those theories. Their degrees get them funding and then they peddle it as a validated conclusion. I get why pharmacology has so swept the field and the market. The own the money, and the money controls just how you write up your proposal to get that grant. It might not be what you want to do, but by damn you have to eat too. And a grant gets you 2-5 years of funding. Ok so it's not what you had in mind, but it's money. Everyone sighs.

I watched credentialed medical take umbridge with the upstarts that think they have found solutions. How dare they? WE have 20 years of science behind us. But not solutions. They can tell you what is happening, where it is happening and what it does to us, but not how to relieve it. And well meaning 'healers' say over and over 'but what about the energetic body' to which biochemists said 'we can't measure it-I do science." So why are they so threatened by solutions?

Why indeed.
A new bright and shiny toy in the sandbox might just take away the attention, and funding. No one wants to lose their funding. Especially not now. No one really wants a solution as long as we can wring our hands and discuss the problem 'again'. Hmmmm

I felt like a country girl being taken to the Queen's court and watching all the backbiting and under currents without being connected to it. Why would one want to take that on? Validity? Vindication? Applause? Oh please. A pipe-dream (and I do mean the good smoke kinda dream)

All very complicated and very treacherous. A wrong word to the wrong person and off with your head! Tip toe through the academic funding world. I see why so many good people don't survive that climate and why the ones that do must have a strong ego and drive, and quite possibly a bit of larceny in their soul. And a big dash of schmoozability in their pocket.

When do we say 'done' and move to solution sets? See, talking about 'the problem' gets you more understanding at the conscious level, but it doesn't relieve the feelings and trauma state at the subconscious and unconscious levels. And all that conscious processing-validates that you really do have a right to feel the way you do, which makes it more real, not less.

In other words, we are feeding the wrong wolf.

Richard Gerber-Vibrational Medicine

"If physicians understood that emotional and spiritual blockages were indirectly responsible for organ dysfunction in the body, there would be more attention directed to dealing with a patient's psychotherapeutic needs and not just with the pharmaceutical and surgical aspects of a patient's care." pg 393 Vibrational Medicine/Richard Gerber

If you haven't picked this book up, I'd suggest it. He correlates so many of the energy healing technique we are familiar with, as well as many others, and each time I pick it up I learn something new.

Here's a bit I got today:

With the i-LEAP training we've just completed, we are indeed tracking those blocked acupoints, imbalances in the system, and when relieved we can demonstrate that there is a change in the neurological pathways and the glial cells. Remember-our class of 9 are the first to be trained in i-LEAP in the United States.

What is Stress?

I had a client recently say, "Joy, you keep talking about 'stress', and how this energy kinesiology can relieve it. But what do you really mean by 'stress'?"

It was, of course, a good question. What I mean, and what he thinks I mean could be far across the field from each other.

In a session we are 'questioning' the internal system for what we term 'stress indicators'. Every stress indicator tells us a bit about the internal state, and that's the stress we are really interested in-the internal hidden state. We know what is going on in our outside lives that is stressful, but how is the body system interpreting or reacting to that external stress? THAT is the stress we are tracking.

Biological stress can be from nutritional deficiency, environmental toxins/pollutants, low level radiation, geopathic stress, electromagnetic stress, temperature changes, barometric changes, fatigue, hormonal fluctuations, biochemical changes, allerigies, medications and medical side effects. Add to this, emotional stress, fear, pain, rage, panic, and now add negative thought energies, belief systems, and finally, situational stress such as job loss, moving, new baby, divorce, death of a loved one. Just to top it off, add smoking, drinking and recreational drug use as well as loading up on over processed prepackaged foods.

Get the idea?

Our incredible body/mind/spirit system can handle an amazing amount of stress, but for all of us, there is a limit, and what is the limit for one may not be the limit for another. And. What the final straw is for one will also vary. The better we take care of ourselves the fewer 'stress indicators' we load ourselves with consciously.

We eat better, we get enough sleep, we start to meditate.
We start to change our friends so that the ones that bring us down are just not as important to us.
We start to take vitamins, we increase our oxygenating exercise.
We turn the tv off, especially the channels that endorse medical commercials because we understand that they are a negative field of fearbased influence.

And, if we are smart, we begin to come for sessions to an energy kinesiologist who will track and relieve the hidden, buried, and unconscious stress that our body has compartmentalized off and buried.

The fascinating thing for me, both as a energy kinesiologist client and as a practitioner is that it is painless, both physically and emotionally. This stress can be relieved and released without traumatizing us. The unconscious can relieve itself of the held tension and pain without revealing more than the client can handle consciously. We don't have to figure anything out. We don't have to worry the issue for 15 years of therapy. We can release the tension, and go on.

If you would like to experience an energy kinesiology session, do contact me or any of the fine EnK practitioners. We each work a bit differently so it's important to find someone that you resonate with.

Drum Therapy

We've been researched! We, meaning shamans that is.

"recent research is now verifing the therapeutic effects of ancient rhythm techniques...accelerates physical healing, boosts the immune system and produces feelings of well-being." We know!

It calms, focuses and relaxes.

But here's something they've discovered: it's great for Alzheimer's patients, autistic kids, teens with emotional issues, addicts that are in recovery, prison inmates, people recovering from trauma, and the homeless.

Why?

Because repetitive rhythmic beats and actions calm the brain, and focus it. Drumming is relaxing. It alters our brain state-we know that because we journey on it, and you can't journey unless you reach a certain brainwave. That brainwave, alpha/theta, calms and centers the brain.

Drumming in groups can also combat disease. So that makes me think that there is an amplification of the rhythm, held by many
that stimulates cellular shift. Rhythm permeates every cell in the body, and synchronizes it, bringing it back into a state of integration.

Even a brief drumming session was found to double the alpha brain wave output, reducing stress. Alpha is a calm, relaxed state, and we know it's the bridge into the other world that we journey to and from. Drum on folks! Drum on!

Grow your own Clean Air

3 plants- that would grow all the fresh air you need.

areca palm - 4 shoulder high plants per person - wipe the leaves - grow in water - take them outside every 3 months

mother-in-law's tongue - a good bedroom plant- converts CO2 into O2 at night - 6-8 waist high per person

money plant - hydroponics grown - removes formaldahydes and chemicals - and I've also heard that they remove nicotene and are good if we have a smoker in the house. These are also good in the bedroom.

In the Amazon, all these plants are HUGE, which is why I am posting it on this blog...shades of the jungle. According to Kamal, you could be sealed in your home with these plants and your blood oxygen levels would go UP!

Oxytocin - the feel good stuff

In simplistic terms: Oxytocin is a brain chemical, a hormone. It makes us feel good. It plays a role in all of our human social stuff, like bonding, trust, maternal instincts, sex but more the foreplay, cuddling, touching, and the more of it we do, the more oxytocin is produced. Call it the love chemical.

The more oxytocin produced, the more sensitive our cell receptors become to it. So it's a positive feedback cycle, unlike dopamine. Dopamine receptors become less sensitive which is why we need 'more' to get the 'same' affect. With oxytocin-the more we give the more we get. Sound familiar? I've heard that somewhere...now where was it...the BIBLE!

The "give to receive" motto could very well be a biblical formula for balancing our BRAIN CHEMISTRY.

Oxytocin is made in the hypothalamus, and stored in the pituitary. Some is in the amygdala and trusting behavior is influenced by these receptors-but only if the amygdala is CALM and not freaking out slamming down on the red alert button. Oxytocin also calms another panic alert. The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis that starts to freak us out with adrenalin and cortisol.

Oxytocin, even though it's secreted from a brain area (pituitary) it can't enter back into the brain that way. It has to enter back via circulation through the body and back via behavior change. Interesting eh? We get it by 'giving it away', again, a biblical mandate. The oxytocin has to go out into 'the world' of the body, have an effect, and via that effect, we get it back.

Give to receive.

They've found oxytocin receptors in the heart too...in rats. Why would God put oxytocin receptors in the heart of a rat and NOT in our hearts? Doesn't make sense does it? Let's take a big leap and say that the more oxytocin we secrete by giving, the bigger our heart gets because the more loving we become. The more loving we are to others, the more we get back. it's a whole biochemical loop.

BTW-fatty foods stimulate oxytocin release. To this Mr. Science, I want to say DUH! :)
WE know it can feel good to eat. We know we are substituting food for love. But now girls and boys-we can tell you that it is aboslutely BIOCHEMICALLY true.

MDMA-ecstasy-stimulates the release of oxytocin. Now THAT'S interesting!

BETTER WITH AGE

We slowly lose brain function over the course of time, but we adjust to it…it’s called aging. It's inevitable...

But wait! Is that the truth, or is it a medical myth? What do you think?

It’s a myth. And you need to bust it if you have it. We need to update our beliefs!

Science used to say that when we lost brain cells they were gone, and that aging just meant the brain was naturally losing brain cells through attrition and there was nothing we could do about it, and that was why our memory got worse. It was the pat explanation.

How sad!

That didn’t make sense to me because the rest of the body regenerates. WHY would God set up this wonderful self-generating system and NOT have that system extend to the brain? Doesn’t make sense, especially since the brain is so important. It would be like creating a car that can repair everything on itself except the engine. Oops. Forgot that part?

So, I figured that we just hadn’t discovered that it could yet, and I was right!

First science said “Oh look! Rat brains can make new brain cells. But not humans.” That made me frown. Come on. God would give a regenerating program to a rat brain and NOT to us? What sort of great cosmic joke is that? Give science enough time though, and it will come up with new conclusions.

Remember-it's only true until it's not true.

Now science says “Hey! Guess what! The brain is constantly making new brain cells, and if we don’t use them they are trimmed off”. Ah now, that’s a bit different isn’t it? The brain makes new cells in one area, and they migrate to other areas on an as needed basis. It’s like this factory that is continually turning out blank slates that can be used anywhere. Thousands of new brain cells are made daily which means you can be constantly expanding and growing your knowledge and abilities. These cells seem to play a big role in deepening our associative memory that is based on comparative experience, and many if not most of these cells are used in the Hippocampus, which is our memory base.

So what's the new belief? Your brain and it's memory capacity CAN, in fact, be getting BETTER WITH AGE, not worse. Ah!

Now this isn’t new information, so why aren't we all operating off it? It was in the 1990s that science made this earth shattering observation! Scientific American published that both Swiss and American neuroscientists had made the same discovery-that human brains are constantly making new brain cells. Even old brains.

If “use it or lose it” works for muscles, why not for the brain? That makes sense! What a great system! What the body is doing in one area, it does again in another. Stem cells work the same way in that they are little blank slates that the body can use anywhere, and what we know about the body is that the same system is replicated over and over everywhere. If the body/mind is doing something in one place it may also do the same ‘system’ or technique somewhere else. Pattern recognition could play a much larger role in decoding the human potential than I think is happening.

What keeps these cells alive? Challenge. Intellectual challenge my friends! Learn something new every day - now there's a challenge! Maybe our brains are just fine, we just aren't in school anymore, we are bored at our jobs that have become routine and our brains are churning out all these new cells that have no new job so they are sloughed off?

Save your brain-learn something new!

Part 3 Potentiation, Memory and the Theta Rhythm

Theta is REM sleep, and it's an awake alert and open state. If you have good teachers in school, students will access a theta state and will learn. They are attentive, alert and open and most importantly they feel safe. What we DO know is that the brain does NOT go to theta when it is scared or in hyper alert. When we are afraid, the amygdala kicks into action.

Unfortunately, one of the things that causes our hyperalert danger sentinel, the amygdala, (gatekeeper for the hippocampus), to fire, is UNSAFE. If the classroom is deemed unsafe by the child, the hippocampus begins to respond and potentiate the wrong information. This means a child can go through an entire day of school and not recall anything except who got in trouble, and go through an entire year with a teacher that scares them, and they won't really have learned anything.

But! 50 years later that adult can still tell me minute details about that teacher from their elementary school days, the mean one, the scary one, the one that terrified them in some way. THAT information is retained in complete detail, and you can be sure that anyone that reminds their internal sentinel of that teacher, set of alarms. It doesn't always make sense to the adult, but it makes perfect sense to the amygdala-which has no sense of linear time.

The brain was online, it was just told to focus on the wrong thing. Right for survival. Wrong for learning.

Part 2 Theta and the Brain

The Theta brainwave is a process that quiets the mind.

Our waking brain state, is beta. Alpha is that daydreamy state, that is slower and more relaxed. Closing your eyes will begin to put your brain into alpha, so if you feel overwhelmed, taking a mini break and closing your eyes...helps.

A theta rhythm, though, is an EEG brainwave pattern that is even slower, and it's observed in the hippocampus in rodent experients. Hippocampus is the brain area that has to do with memory, what to pay attention to, what to really pay attention to, what gets shuffled back to long term memory, or more specifically UP to the neocortex...or really around to the neocortex...oh let me add a picture...

Hippocampus is that green piece...see it? Now this is not a rodent brain-it's a human brain. It's funny that we've studied the hippocampus in rodents in terms of theta but we don't want to 'scientifically' say it's the same for humans...wonder why?

You can hit a theta state with any repeating action or sound. Running, swimming, walking will put you into a type 1 thetawave. Drumming, rattling and sacred trance dance will also put you into a theta state. A theta rhythm is a very regular oscillating wave that synchronizes the brain.

Isn't it interesting that the hippocampus, that area that has a significant role in learning and memory, is so positively affected by accessing a theta rhythm?

Part 1 Potentiation, Memory and a Theta Rhythm

The scientific speculation is that a theta rhythm modulates long term "potentiation". Potentiation is the process that the brain uses to differentiate between what's important to remember, and what's not as important, what gets our attention, and what doesn't, or what we need to learn and what we can forget about. Potentiation is when it goes round and round...the more times it cirulates, the more we remember it.

Think of it like your computer. Information comes in, if it's interesting enough it gets up on clipboard, and if it gets potentiated, it goes to long term memory, but it needs to circulate for awhile first inorder to get potentiated. If something else comes in that says it's important or novel, if it gets the attention, the hippocampus might drop the other bit so the next bit can get put on clipboard. Sometimes the brain is overactive in one area, like paying attention to lots of things, but it misses actually getting it into long term memory so you can re-remember it. Oops. Gone. It drops it. Just like the computer will. Now what was that?

Here's an example from my life, just yesterday. My husband has gone to the store to pick something up for dinner. I am walking through the house and BLING, I realize he needs to pick up something else. Quick better call him so he can grab it. It's important! Where's my phone? I start to look for the phone because it's not in my pocket, where it usually is. Where did I put the phone? I go into the other room to find it, call him, and as I walk back...

I can't remember what I wanted to call him about. Dang. I walk into the kitchen. I open the fridge. I look all around. I am looking for some sort of memory clue...but I got nuthin. I tell him, sorry honey, can't remember what it was.
Gone. What just happened was my hippocampus dropped it off my mental "clipboard" when-"where's the phone"-came in.

My hippocampus was now entertained by new, more novel information that came in saying "MORE IMPORTANT". It got prioritized to the front of the line. My brain had not POTENTIATED the earlier important thing so I could hold onto it a bit longer, but efficiently dropped it. Make way for the new!

What the hippocampus needed was another go around because the longer the information had circulated, the more it would be retained. The old adage REPEAT REPEAT REPEAT, is true, but the new information booted it out too fast. When my brain was interested in the new, the older new was dropped.

When we learn to hold a theta rhythm, we learn more, and we learn deeper. We remember more. It's true-it balances the brain. And i-LEAP® balances the brain by tracking and relieving hidden stress within the brain circuitry.

I took a moment, slowed down. I closed my eyes, I accessed theta, and I oxygenated my brain. All things that naturally and easily help us to remember more. BINGO! The lightbulb went on. Literally-we needed lightbulbs. I called him back and all was well.

While a theta rhythm entrains the whole brain, it is speculated that the theta rhythm originates in the hippocampus, and the hippocampus is involved with our memory circuits. When we are relaxed, we learn more, we remember more. When we feel safe in the classroom, we learn more, we remember more. Find out if your child considers his classroom safe.

The Sleepy Brain

I remember watching a study that compared driving after drinking to driving when sleep deprived. Turned out that it was MORE dangerous to drive when fatigued, than to drive drunk.

In fact, the first accident I was ever involved in was with a man who fell asleep at the wheel and slammed into my new car. He had just started working a night job, and was on his way home and fell asleep behind the wheel. I had just started a new job and had to be there at 6am. He nodded off. I honked. He hit me. The impact woke him up. Wrong place at the wrong time, although to be honest, it was ok. There was a line of school kids waiting for the bus behind me. Could have been worse than crunching my car. Much worse.

In the Journal of Neuroscience (May 21), Duke NUS graduate med students in Singapore showed what happens to the visual perceptions of someone that is fighting to stay awake while driving all night. We lose the ability to make sense of what we are seeing.

The brain starts to pulse on and pulse off. Think of it like an energy-saving system. It's trying to conserve energy, and function without the resources. It's doing the best it can. The back up plan is start to shut down what might not be as important. The image above of the blurry stuff makes sense in terms of what we know about vision. The amygdala, your safety sentinel, makes 'rough images' in an attempt to quickly sort for danger. The amygdala then, is allowing the frontal lobes to rest as much as it can, and says "it's ok honey, we'll take over for awhile". Of course, it can only do as much as it can do. It's not visual, it's 'rough visual'. The frontal lobe processing need the most fuel and are the first to suffer if there is a lack of sleep, good nutrition, oxygen.

So, when we are sleep deprived, we don't see as well, we don't process as well, we make stupid choices, we take more risks. Think of all the high risk jobs people do at night-gives you pause doesn't it? Air traffic controllers, pilots, doctors, nurses, police to name a few. Truck drivers.

Lack of sleep can cause break downs in the immune system. It can cause weight gain because of the added stress. It can contribute to cognitive breakdown and emotional breakdowns. Get your sleep!

Sleep Deprivation and Loss of Brain Integration

The brain is a sensitive organ. It needs the right nutrition, it needs oxygen, and hydration. It needs aminos and fats. But sleep also affects the brain, or lack of it, and another way that we can lose brain integration is via sleep deprivation.

Below is an excerpt from a research article posted on DANA on sleep and the ability to make sound decisions.

"The orbitofrontal cortex (OFC), located at the front of the brain behind the eyes, reacts to the mistake and thereby helps us alter our behavior, according to Geoffrey Schoenbaum, an assistant professor in the department of anatomy and neurobiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

"The OFC enables us to recognize when things don’t go as we expected,” Schoenbaum said. “Damage to the OFC results in deficits in what we call reversal learning—the ability to go back and reconsider a decision based on the outcome. The OFC is well-known for its role in good judgment, for allowing us to use what we think we know about likely outcomes to guide decision making, but the OFC also enables us to recognize and learn from things that don’t go as we expected. "Changes in the OFC may be involved in the addict's compulsive seeking of drugs (or their addiction) behavior."

Lack of sleep compromises decision making. Vinod Venkatraman and his colleagues at Duke University and National University of Singapore demonstrated that sleep-deprived gamblers are more inclined to make high-risk bets, apparently because they overestimate their chances of winning.

The researchers scanned the brains of 28 young adults (with a mean age of 22.3 years) who were playing a gambling game that involved various risk strategies. They repeated the scans after the subjects had gone for 24 hours without sleep. The participants no longer embraced a strategy of avoiding losses; instead they went for big gains despite the threat of big losses.

Brain scans showed that when the subjects were sleep-deprived, they displayed less activation in the insular cortex, a region associated with negative moods and emotions. Gains produced greater activation in the striatum, which contains many receptors for dopamine, the neurotransmitter released abundantly after taking cocaine or other recreational drugs.

“Sleep deprivation promotes risk-seeking behavior by increasing neural responses to anticipated gains in regions associated with reward processes, particularly the ventral striatum and ventral medial prefrontal cortex,” Venkatraman said. “It also diminishes sensitivity to losses.”

Thich Nhat Hanh - Walking Meditation

"We all have a war inside us. What do you regret for yourself?
If you are to come to see this, you must address your fear, your hatred"

This is moving and profound. How do we go through something like the Vietnam war, and still come to peace inside us? We all have a war inside. That's what PTSD is, but that's what we call 'survival switching', then becomes now, and the hippocampus cycles it through again, and reenergizes the circuitry, and the brain sheaths the circuits in myelin...again and again.

We are still struggling in our county with the affects our war within, of our own journey back to peace.

"Diffuse the bombs inside us" he says. Ah. So true.

Watch his walking meditation-it is not a walk to get to a place, and yet it is, for the place is inside.
It is a place of peace within.
And then bringing elements of peace to your daily life.

Why have we come so far from peace inside? Our children are born within the constant noise and movement of our modern lives are overwhelmed. Are we teaching our children peace inside? Do we know how to have peace inside-or are we moving towards even more constant sound and bombardment of our senses?

I'm curious if you have 51 minutes to let yourself watch this gentle message? Let me know if your life has time for 51 minutes?

Coincidentally, last night I wrote about the hippocampus and PTSD, and how high the estimates are for returning soldiers. And I was curious about VIetnam and where we were now with them? I wrote about the hippocampus and brain integration and allowing us to come to peace within.

"Every day when we wake up, we have twenty-four brand new hours to live."

Are Humans Unique? Really?

Michael Gazzaniga, neural scientist, wrote "The Ethical Brain", about his investigation into the human mind and how we develop abilities that separate us from animals.

His new book, "Human, The Science Behind What Makes Us Unique" delves into more. For an excerpt from the book Click Here

Humans lie. No surprise there. Animals lie too, but mostly for survival.
Humans lie socially.
And humans lie to themselves. Self deception. One of the conclusions they discovered:

"Those with a greater sense of moral responsibility did not show signs of greater moral integrity; they actually showed signs of greater hypocrisy!" Doesn't bode well for the higher developed species does it?

Chronic Stress Disrupts the Brain

Chronic Stress Disrupts the Brain’s Ability to Shift Attention
February 10, 2009

"Ordinary chronic stress can impair our ability to shift attention flexibly, according to a recent study of stressed-out medical students. The study found that stress achieves this temporary remodeling of the brain by reducing the connectivity of an attention-regulating area of the prefrontal cortex.

“It’s reassuring that this attention-shifting deficit seems to go away after stress is reduced, but such deficits are similar to what we see in a number of stress-related psychiatric disorders, so we need to know more about it,” says the study’s first author, Conor Liston, a neuroscientist and a psychiatry resident at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. The study was released Jan. 12 on the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science Web site.

“This study is the first to show how this common behavioral experience in people may relate to weaker brain network connections,” says Amy Arnsten, a neuroscientist at Yale University who has done work in this area. “Importantly, the effects of stress were fully reversible, similar to those seen in animals.”

The article goes on to say:

"This loss of flexibility is a symptom of anxiety disorders and depression; people with these disorders typically find it hard to shift their focus away from fearful or otherwise negative thoughts. Evidence suggests that drug addiction, too, empowers limbic craving activity and at the same time weakens the inhibitory influence of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex.

Stress is known to play a role in all of these conditions. Although the mechanisms by which it boosts some regions and impairs others are not yet clear, Arnsten and colleagues have shown in animal experiments that, for example, stressful conditions can raise levels of the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and dopamine in prefrontal regions. These raised levels in turn may alter the sensitivity of the neurons in those regions, effectively reducing their influence over behavior.

Whether chronic-stress-induced changes in prefrontal neurotransmitter levels eventually lead to actual dendritic shrinkage remains to be seen. “This is still a new area that we don’t know much about,” says Liston. “But the ultimate goal is to design targeted interventions aimed at exploiting the finding that a stress effect like this is reversible.”

Monday Shamanic class begins at the U

Monday evening we begin a new shamanic class through the U.

There are just a few openings left! We will be doing drumming journeys every week, learning to connect to the energies of the planet. You'll journey to meet your totem animals, your guides. You will begin to build your shamanic alter space, called a 'mesa' that is a sacred union between you and you that forms a bridge between the worlds.

We will create a sacred space and you will begin to learn to navigate in and out of magical places...and have fun! I had a couple come one series. Older and very sweet both of them. She talked, he didn't much. The first night when we went to journey, instead of laying on the floor and relaxing, he crossed his arms over his chest and sat in a chair. He didn't close his eyes. He watched me as I guided the rest, lights lowered, into that under world.

Afterwards they shared their journeys, one by one, sweet, gentle, funny. When it was his turn I asked him why he decided not to go? It was ok, but I was curious. He said "Well I'm not going into that EVIL place!" and he looked challengingly at me as if it had been a test.

I realized I had forgotten how we are, we civilized people. I smiled.

I said, "You know, they are a simple people. When indigenous cultures say they are going into the under world, they mean it. Into the under..." and I pointed down

"world. Vs here in the middle world, and" I pointed up "to the upper world." I paused.

"That's all. They really mean, we are journeying into the belly of the mother, back to the beginning, into the earth from where we came. They don't have a concept of hell like we do. They don't have a map of anything fearful there. There are just lost children, fractured soul parts that when they got scared, went back to the mother until the time when we are able to go down and bring them home."

"That's it. They just quite literally mean 'under world. under here. And for them, we are surrounded by helpers, guides and assistance. It's a friendly place. I think you'll like it."

He happily journeyed every week after that...sometimes we only need a little coaxing to come out from behind limiting beliefs that no longer serve us. I think there's enough fear without creating more, don't you?

30 DAYS on an Indian Reservation

I heard my family in California complaining that they couldn't manage on the water ration of 100 gal a day for 2 people...on the Indian Reservation, they have no running water, and drive to a well to collect water-and use 10 gal a day for a family.

It makes me marvel at how unaware we are of what is going on in our country.

Could it be that as I come to the end of this 2 year training-I'm going to be in the right place at the right time?

Stranger things have happened.

The brain, the bio computer that runs us-can be influenced. The brain, the hardware of how we operate in the world, feel, and see, think, and come to conclusions-can be changed.

Of course it can!

Neuroplasticity and Healing

The Brain That Changes Itself is a new best seller written by Dr. Norman Doidge.

This is the website. I bought the book in the airport yesterday and happily read it on the way home. He's chock full of anecdotal records of people that have changed their brain when told it couldn't be done.

Right on the front of his website it says: "The discovery of neuroplasticity, that our thoughts can change the structure and function of our brains, even into old age, is the most important breakthrough in our understanding of the brain in four hundred years."

Well, we in thetahealing land KNEW that. We, in reiki, and shaman and alternative healing fields, KNEW that. While this isn't new news to us, it SHOULD make you all feel vindicated.

Keep on changing those beliefs, changing those feelings, clearing and healing.
Keep on doing what you are doing, and keep on getting those inexplicable healings and changes.
Love to you all!

Loving the World

chakras are really swirls of light, and the colors are based on a predominance of color and movement. The thought that they are only one color is not correct. Love yourself, and the colors change. Love the world, and they change yet again.

Seeing Between the worlds

The eyes really see two images and the brain integrates them into one. WHen everything is working, they overlap and the brain fills in the 'blindspot'.

When you look at a thetagraph, also called a sterogram, your two eyes see one image.
But! If you begin to 'let go' of the one image, you soon see a wholly different 'something'.
This happens when you let your eyes perceive the different images, and you can begin to see 'between the worlds', or what is really hidden beneath/between what your brain is showing us.

It's a great exercise to play with, and begins to teach your brain to perceive in a new way.

Here are a few to play with:
EYETRICKS.COM

Some say to stare intently, some say to stare slightly above the image itself. I tend to have more success by going 'through' the image. In all cases, you are playing with letting your eyes NOTdeliver one image to you.

Hint: the less you try, the better you do. Isn't that the truth!

Orbs of Light

When we speak of 'orbs' what do you think they mean?
Orbs of light are sometimes perceived by the eye, sometimes by the lens in photos taken later.

ORBS OF LIGHT is a website with some great orb photos.

It depends who's talking about them as to what their interpretation is.
Aliens?
Physic connections to spirits?
Transcended beings?
Ghosts?

What we do know is they are a presence that seems to be drawn when we are connecting, centered, and often when we are bringing through higher knowledge and teaching. Often in beautiful places in nature-are they there because we feel a certain way?

I've seen them inside, outside, fireside. I've seen them in dreams too. I've seen them with eyes open, eyes closed. I don't think there is only one answer.

Crones Don't Whine

Crone is the word for 'older' woman. Wise woman. Woman of years.

I'm not ready to be a Crone. I think it has a wrinkled sort of sound. What comes to mind is that tottering old medicine woman with long white hair, gnarled fingers, and a wart.

Crone....can't we come up with a better word?

But. A friend just sent me a book to read. "Crones Don't Whine". It's written by Jean Shenoda Bolen, MD. She says crones are about inner development, not outer appearance...my thighs just sighed.

She has a list of 13 qualities we should cultivate. Here they are:

1. Crones don't whine - it blocks spiritual growth
2. Crones are juicy - with zest, passion, and soul
3. Crones have green thumbs
4. Crones trust what they know in their bones
5. Crones meditate in their fashion
6. Crones are fierce about what matters to them
7. Crones choose the path with heart
8. Crones speak the truth with compassion
9. Crones listen to their bodies
10. Crones improvise
11. Crones laugh together
13. Crones savor the good in their lives

then she says:
Exceptional men can be crones
and my favorite...Crones together can change the world

So maybe this is what the LOL is about? Maybe we are taking a wisdom stand? A crone stand? She says " I envision a third wave of grass-roots international feminism taking the form of women's circles with a spiritual center. When women come together with a commitment to each other, they are creating a vessel of transformation."

Ok ok...let me run 'crone' around the block again...

Transmissions and Initiations

The Laika, the Qero, are the children of light. They call themselves this, they think of themselves this way. They are both light keepers, as well as light livers. The only time I've seen people radiating the same sort of luminosity were Tibetan monks that had come from Tibet to give energetic transmissions to us.

There was a shining radiance that emitted from their skin, a calmness that came from inside, a walk with that light in a way we can recognize but few can emulate. What is it about that sort of luminous beingness?

It comes from absolute connection. I suppose that this is what Jesus must have looked and felt like to those that gathered about him. The sense that here was someone that knew something, lived something that we didn't. But the message is that we can too.

The transmissions are an energetic engagement. They begin to attune you to receive frequencies, and so information, at the energetic level, first. The explanation, the translation if you will, comes later. First, you receive, then you open, then you accept, then you can articulate. Until then, you might find yourself releasing and clearing.

This can be gentle, or it can be rough. How tenacious are you in holding to the old dense ways? One can't make the jump to light, without letting go of what holds you down and back. This 'something' that holds us, can be at the level of identity, and it can hold us at the level of archetype. Archetype means a field of beliefs and a map of being that is deeply encoded in the unconscious. It expresses itself in our actions and relationships.

The only thing that stops us from moving forward is fear. Fear of who we will be without this story, this way in the world. As we work on our beliefs and engagements consciously, the transmissions work at the energetic. We begin to feel the shifts at the energetic as they come into our awareness through the mental and emotional levels.

Buddhist Colors of Light

In the Buddhist tradition they have 5 chakra spaces that they focus on. The colors they assign to these centers are also different than the Hindu, but in terms of mixing light, it makes perfect sense, and fits with how I was instructed from those Luminous Light beings that came in when I was having my NDE.

The base chakra is green
The heart is blue
The throat is red

Those are the 3 primary colors in light, the three frequencies that come into our system before we have density.

The abdomen is yellow
which represents intelligent thought in terms of light teaching. It only develops as a complimentary balance of green and red-red is primal life force and going out into the world, and green which is our connection to the mother, to that which feeds and nurtures us.

The crown is white
and incorporates the third eye as it is the whole top of the head.

What have they simplified? The heart, as blue, covers both the heart and the solar plexus. This makes total sense in terms of healing with light as I was instructed to use blue in the solar plexus to heal the heart chakra.

The Qero, the Laika, the Children of Light, originated in the high Himilayas...same roots?

Sólo sobre mí están tus ojos que son mis ojos.
¡Ay! que dolor, duele mucho me estás diciendo.
Crees que es para creer que yo te estoy viendo.
Que hombre creerás que soy
que en estos lugares estoy llorando.
Si muero me extrañarás
pero yo no quiero que eso pase.

Anyone able to translate to English, would appreciate.

You May Throw Your Arms Around Me

I will come for you at night time
and I will raise you from your sleep
I will kiss you in four places
as I go running up your street
and I will squeeze the life out of you
You will make me laugh and make me cry
We may never forget it
You will make me call your name and I'll shout it to the blue summer sky
and We may never meet again
So shed your skin - let's get started
And you may throw your arms around me

And you may throw your arms around me

Well I came for you at nighttime
And I watched you in your sleep
Lord, I met you in high places
I kissed your head and kissed your feet
Now if you disappear out of view
You know, I will never say goodbye
and Though I try to forget it
You will make me call your name and I'll shout it to the blue summer sky

and We may never meet again
So shed your skin and get started
And you may throw your arms around me

and we may never meet again
so shed your skin and let's get started

Yeah you may throw you arms around me
Yeah you may

Here's to the light!

Play

Don’t hesitate a second
Do taste everything
and immediately spit it out if you don’t like it

Yell if we need to
Cry if we have to
and finish with a chuckle

Expect to get what you are after, one way or another

Trust that we are being watched over
Learn something new every day

Smile at everyone you meet!

Repeat back to everyone everything you hear, exactly as you heard it
Know that what you learn today, may need to be updated tomorrow when you’ve learnt even more!

Look life right in the eye, throw back your head and laugh!

So maybe being fifty isn’t about finally being an adult.
Maybe being fifty is about finally NOT being an adult…I never thought of that!

And try your wings-you have helping hands all around you!

Do Shamans Dance Naked by the Moon?

It's such a good question, but, sorry, I gotta say if that had been part of the deal, you'd have never gotten me there. Nope. Not naked. Now, some do I suppose, but not I. I'm not a prude. I just have no desire to shock the world with my thighs. While I love the beautiful print in the sand that my butt might leave, I will tell you, that it's not such a beautiful site neeked. I'll keep it to myself, thanks. Would I if I had the butt of Bo Derek? Oh...hmmm...that's such a good question too! I just might! If it didn't jiggle when I juggle, I just might, yes indeedie.

Having said that, we DO dance by firelight. With our clothes on.

We also rattle, sing, drum. It's a lot of fun. And sometimes we have silent fires. It's all about intent. Some nights the fire is joyful and we all laugh. Some nights it's solemn and serene. You never know what comes out at the fire. It's healing. It's releasing. It changes and it delights. Fire is the great friend and com buster. We do love our fire. Fire is sacred which means it's honored. It's a living energy and we respect it and enter the fire when it invites us. The fire becomes friendly and we thank it.

Fire is always about change.

What is living a shamanic life?

I'm usually asked if shamanism is a religion, which makes me smile. It's a spiritual connection. It awakens within you a walk with the life force of everything-but is that religion? Well, not the way most of us were taught religion.

No, it's not a religion. Keep your religion. And explore your spiritual connection.

It's a deep communion with nature. It's learning a new language. It's waking to the dream. Shamanism is creating peace within and peace around you. It's becoming conscious, and it's becoming responsible. It's connecting to all living thing, and honoring the rhythm of the earth. And it's personal.

My teacher said "The shaman no longer looks for meaning in life, but brings meaning to every situation. The shaman stops looking for truth and instead brings truth to every encounter." I think this is a brilliant summation.

Shamanism is an active practice, focused on healing. It's a living path. It's the pollen path. It's been called so many things, and still it reverberates around the world with a call to come back to center, come back to home, and come into service.

He once told me, "we all have a future, but not all of us have a destiny." But now he says "You are here to fulfill a destiny. When you have trauma that occurs in your life, your destiny is derailed. It becomes fate. Fate is a story that's been written for you by somebody else. Destiny is a story you write."

What is the story of your destiny? If you are the author, what is your hero/heroine about to do?

We are all on the verge of our greatest adventure! What do you choose to dream the world into being?

It's time to step away from the fateful story that was written for you. Put it in the fire. And dream on!

Noticing

This work, and by that I mean, ALL of the sensitivity training, is really aimed at becoming more aware in the moment.

When we gather the past to us, and heal it, we are really bringing more of our vital life force to us in the now.

When we become aware of the energetic communications from all of life around us, the wind, the water, the animals, the tones of life, we are awakening to support, and to a language of symbol, metaphor and energy.

When we allow ourselves to open and heal, move and clear, we are really allowing ourselves to return to our original state, our state of joy. We had it as children, and many of us lost it quite young.

Isn't it time to welcome the child back to the light? Isn't it time we imagined the world a beautiful, gentle, safe place, because only when we can imagine it, can we create it. We have to be able to allow ourselves to dwell in the possible so that we can invite magic and magical intervention-BACK to us.

How far back do you have to go to find the magical child inside you? Where did you hide her? And what if it's time? I think we need to all embrace our child/children inside and bring back the light.

Amma Rose Oil

If you've come to the classes you are familiar with the rose oil I use. This is the link to Amma's rose oil so you can order your own. This bottle lasts quite a while. A single drop in my palms in the morning, and my son still can smell it on me in the evening. Carries a very high vibration.

If you don't know who AMMA is, she is a hindi master that travels the world, giving hugs. People line up and wait as much as 10 hours to get a hug and bask in her energy. She is said to be pure love, and is said to be the incarnation of Mother Mary.

She comes to the Bay Area, to NM, to Seattle. Her tour is posted on her website too.

Love the flutes! This is lovely music, not traditional peruvian, but is from a peruvian group.

The art of the Mesa

The center of your mesa is your axis mundi, the connection point.
We are creating a space between the worlds. The mesa intersects then with the upper, middle and lower worlds and allows us to navigate them all.

To understand yourself, look at your mesa, but with the eyes of a poet. You must let go of words and feel into your mesa to understand the dialog that resides there. It speaks to your heart, to another you that sleeps within.

The beads then, are the vessel, the container. What happens within is the happening of your life. Each stone informs us.
We change our mesa to change our world.

We divine, we declare, we manifest via the mesa. We come to understand ourselves, and our place in the world.
Each stone is a healer. Each stone has a power that we have called to us through the work.
The stones are cu-yas, sweet babies, parts of ourselves, conduits to nature and elemental, primal power.
Each stone helps us hold, create and navigate our own unconscious.

The mesa then, is the healer's body. It is our sacred source to the universe, and port of communication from the universe.
It is not to be stepped into lightly, and yet it is. You are calling up your own deep resources. Do it with laughter and joy. Do it with innocence and wonder. Let yourself play.

What is a mesa?

In the traditional sense, a “Mesa” is an alter. When we open our mesa, we are dialoging with ourselves, our guides, and we open a space ‘between the worlds’.

A mesa is used for healing work. The first level of the work is the development of a dialog with yourself and learning the language of symbol, color and sensory messages. It is the development of your relationship with your own unconscious self. It is the development of SACRED space. S.A.C.R.E.D. means opening a “special area created as respect especially for the divine.” As you are the center of your mesa, you are beginning to relate to your inner self as that divine connection.

Working with our inner selves, moving energy, doing healing work, and personal journeys for information, the mesa is our personal expression, and the development of a deep connection to our own inner world. It is the dance between our conscious mind and our unconscious mind. The mesa becomes the bridge between our selves.

We first read the layout of our mesa, feeling into it. And then we decide what we want instead, and change it. The Qero believe in the influencing of our futures, not just reading them. They take a more proactive engagement with the time lines and luminous threads that we move along on.

Different mesas, stones, layouts, and expressions of personal self are taught and awakened. No two are the same, and often the mesa changes from month to month, day to day. As we are dynamic beings so is our mesa. It is an energetic living force, and we come to the mesa for change, for power, for strength, for steadying, for information, we come with gratitude, with respect and with humility. When we open our mesa, we are opening sacred space, and we are opening our own communion with the energetic world around us.

Our mesa then, is a portal of communication, and an opening for change.

So the first question to ourselves is how are things, and the second is what do I want instead of this? We track and align with what we are engaging, what we chose, and what we move away from. It is an active relationship with our inner selves which is expressed in out outer world.

THe shaman always works on themselves to affect change around them.

Shamanic Saturdays

Starting in Dec, we will be having a once a month Shamanic class.
The vote has been to have it on a weekend day instead of weekday evenings. SInce it's cold and dark I'm all for that myself!
Do sign up and plan to attend. We will introduce a new process each month, work in our mesas and of course, journey. I will also offer one of the shamanic initiations each month that we call the "munay ki", which are transmissions and intiations that are grounding, protecting and empowering. We will be learning how to work with them as well!

I will offer it twice, so if you can't make one date, you have another option.
